Technology Standards

1. Technology Tools: Identify Basics
The learner will be able to use appropriate and accurate terminology when communicating about basic technology components and telecommunication tools encountered in any learning environment.
  
2. Technology Selection: Specification
The learner will be able to select the appropriate tool to perform a specific task encountered in any learning environment .
  
3. Technology Tools: Functions
The learner will be able to recognize the functions of a variety of telecommunication tools that are available in a learning environment.
  
4. Technology Tools: Resources
The learner will be able to recognize telecommunication resources for gathering information.
  
5. Technology Tools: Recognition
The learner will be able to recognize technology tools at home, school and in the community.
  
6. Technology Tools: Care & Use
The learner will be able to demonstrate appropriate and effective care and use of technology tools.
  
7. Operations: Hardware
The learner will be able to perform basic hardware operating functions. (Examples might include turn on/off, uses mouse and keyboard, insert CD-ROMs, cassettes, and videotapes).
  
8. Operations: Software
The learner will be able to perform basic software functions. (Examples might include printing, opening and exiting programs and files, saving files).
  
9. Technology Tools: Peripheral Devices
The learner will be able to use peripheral devices. (Examples might include headphones, printers, digital cameras, and scanner, projection devices and other emerging technologies).
  
10. Keyboarding Skills: Recognition
The learner will be able to recognize and use the letters and function keys on the keyboard with teacher guidance.
  
11. Keyboarding Skills: Independent Use
The learner will be able to demonstrate an understanding of standard keyboarding techniques and correct fingering techniques.
  
12. Brainstorming/Webbing
The learner will be able to use brainstorming/webbing software in planning, organizing, and pre-writing.
  
13. Writing Process Tools: Illustration
The learner will be able to use computer-drawing programs to create illustrations and/or picture stories.
  
14. Writing Process Tools: Create
The learner will be able to use word processing skills to type words, phrases, and sentences.
  
15. Writing Process Tools: Edit
The learner will be able to use word processing skills to edit a typed document (Examples might include spelling, grammar, and page formatting).
  
16. Writing Process Tools: Images
The learner will be able to create a word processing document with inserted images.
  
17. Multi-Media Tools: Characteristics
The learner will be able to recognize the characteristics of multimedia (graphics, sound, and video).
  
18. Multi-media Tools: Identifies
The learner will be able to identify multimedia tools (digital cameras, scanners, audio files, microphone, head phones, speakers and other emerging technologies).
  
19. Multi-media Tools: Enhancement
The learner will be able to select multimedia to enhance meaning of an original drawing produced using technology with teacher guidance. (An example might be adding sound to enhance the meaning of a drawing).
  
20. Charts and Graphs: Create
The learner will be able to collect, organize, display, add and edit information in charts, graphs, lists and files.
  
21. Charts and Graphs: Analyze
The learner will be able to examine and draw conclusions from information displayed in charts and graphs.
  
22. Communication: Correspondence
The learner will be able to participate in facilitated information gathering and in communication with others. (Examples might include emailing student questions to an expert, greetings to other classes or responding on a website).
  
23. Research: Locate Information
The learner will be able to recognize that (K-2) and uses (3-5) technology and telecommunication tools can be used to locate information.
  
24. Research: Evaluate Information
The learner will be able to assess with teacher guidance the validity of published information at an introductory level. (Example might include information on a website that may be based on opinion not fact).
  
25. Research: How and Why Questions
The learner will be able to use technology to find answers to how and why questions. (Example might include student use of teacher chosen websites or the use of a networked encyclopedia).
  
26. Ethical Use: Understanding
The learner will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concept of intellectual property and copyright. (Examples might include knowing that most images are owned by someone and cannot be used without permission).
  
27. Ethical Use: Personal Security
The learner will be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic safety precautions concerning sharing personal information about themselves and others.
  
28. Ethical Use: Historical Impact
The learner will be able to discuss the affects of technology on society. (Examples might include how communication has changed through the use of discuss or cell phones).
  
29. Problem Solving: Strategies
The learner will be able to implement the standards from the other five strands as students use technology (puzzles, logical thinking programs, writing tools, drawing tools) for problem solving, communication, and illustration of thoughts and stories.
