Skills and Techniques

PS1:
The learner will be able to perform with expression and accuracy, alone and with others, a varied repertoire representing diverse genres, cultures and styles in grade III Literature.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.1.1 Posture
The learner will be able to demonstrate correct posture.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.1.2 Right Hand Pizzicato
The learner will be able to demonstrate right hand open string pizzicato achieving a clear, resonant tone.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.1.3 Left Hand Position
The learner will be able to demonstrate correct left hand position.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.1.4 Cello Extensions
The learner will be able to demonstrate ability to use forward and backward extensions for cello.

The learner will be able to demonstrate technical facility shifting up to third position for violin/viola, and up to fourth position for cello/bass.

PS2:
The learner will be able to understands the system, vocabulary, theory, and the conventions necessary to read and notate music in grade III literature.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.1 Rhythmic Patterns
The learner will be able to demonstrate (perform) rhythmic patterns using sixteenth, triplet, dotted notes, and corresponding rests using written dynamics and tempi.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.2 Sight-reading
The learner will be able to demonstrate through sightreading accurately and expressively, in ensemble and individually, music which is one grade level below materials being studied.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.3 Scales
The learner will be able to demonstrate (perform) major and melodic minor two octave scales up to and including three sharps and three flats at M.M. quarter note=100, using various bowings and rhythmic figures. (Bass: 1-octave Bb, G, F and A major scales with appropriate octave displacements.).
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.4 Musical Terminology
The learner will be able to describe terminology used in materials being studied.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.5 Musical Symbols
The learner will be able to demonstrate the ability to identify and define standard notation symbols for pitch, rhythm, dynamics, tempo, articulation, and expression in materials being studied.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.6 Notation
The learner will be able to interpret and write pitches in the appropriate clef.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.7 Musical Understanding
The learner will be able to identify key signatures in materials being studied.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.8 Music Symbol Identity
The learner will be able to identify notes by letter name and fingering or position, and demonstrate by playing.
  
MUS.ORCH-P.2.9 Complex Rhythms
The learner will be able to interpret complex rhythms using a standard counting system(e.g. Cooley system/1 & 2&).

PS3:
The learner will be able to create music using improvisational and compositional techniques in small and large ensembles with level III literature.
