MUS.BAND-P.1.1 Expressive Music Performance
The learner will be able to
demonstrate a clear understanding of musicality through the use of correct phrasing, shaping, direction of musical line, dynamics, and expressive nuance through a performance which is stylistically representative of the period in the grade III music literature being studied.

The learner will be able to
respond to conducting patterns, cues, and interpretive gestures through the performance of grade III music literature and demonstrate basic conducting patterns and gestures.

develop independence through the preparation and performance in a chamber music ensemble as deemed appropriate by the director.

The learner will be able to

prepare and perform repertoire representing diverse world cultures, historical periods, and styles at grade level III music literature.

The learner will be able to

The learner will be able to

The learner will be able to
demonstrate the ability to tune their instrument to a given pitch with technological assistance.

MUS.BAND-P.1.10 Intonation
The learner will be able to
demonstrate the ability to adjust intonation within major and minor chords and intervals by singing and playing, either individually or within the ensemble. The students should be able to do this with limited assistance.

MUS.BAND-P.1.11 Percussion Technique
The learner will be able to
demonstrate proper grip and stroke techniques specific to individual percussion instruments used in grade III band literature (Ex. triangle, woodblock, ethnic percussion).

MUS.BAND-P.1.12 Timpani Performance
The learner will be able to
demonstrate technique on three to four timpani, tune each timpani to a given reference pitch, and adjust tuning within an instrumental work.

The learner will be able to
demonstrate basic swing patterns.

MUS.BAND-P.1.14 Snare Drum Performance
The learner will be able to
read and perform slow fast slow and from memory the following rudiments: open roll, 5 stroke roll, 7 stroke roll, double paradiddle, flam, drag, single drag tap, double drag tap, single ratamacue, triple ratamacue, flam accent, flamacue, flam paradiddle, and a multiple bounce roll starting at a piano dynamic and crescendoing to a forte dynamic, then back to piano.

MUS.BAND-P.1.15 Keyboard Performance
The learner will be able to
continue to develop reading standard pitch notation while using peripheral vision to locate notes on the keyboard.

MUS.BAND-P.1.16 Characteristic Tone
The learner will be able to
perform with a characteristic tone quality utilizing correct embouchure playing position, posture, breathing techniques, enunciation, and percussion implement stroke in music literature in the grade III level literature.

MUS.BAND-P.1.17 Ensemble Skills
The learner will be able to
demonstrate the following ensemble skills through performance of musical literature in grade level III: Rehearsal etiquette, dynamic expression, style, blend and balance, steady tempo, rhythmic accuracy, intonation.

The learner will be able to
demonstrate the ability to maintain tempo while performing with a metronome.
