Mission Statement
The mission of the Curriculum and Instruction Division is to: Increase student learning through the development and implementation of a rigorous and relevant curriculum and identification of effective instructional resources and strategies that challenge all students to maximize their potential.
Mission Statement: Health Education
Cobb County Public School’s Health
Education Program will ensure that each student will possess current knowledge,
skills, and the self-esteem necessary to be a productive citizen and make
personal responsible decisions to promote a healthy lifestyle. The student will
actively engage in critical thinking skills through developmentally appropriate
content.
The health and
safety course provides a direct and factual approach to health education that is
practical, personal, and positive. Health topics include safety, drug
education, nutrition, personal health, growth and development building
self-esteem and relationship skills. By acquiring the knowledge, attitudes, and
skills necessary to a healthful life, students learn to take responsibilities
for their own health.
Comprehensive health education is designed to help the student learn about
total health: physical, mental, and social wellbeing. The focus of these courses
is on wellness and preventive health and safety measures. It encourages the
student to learn, practice, and choose responsible health behaviors to improve
and safeguard his/her health throughout life. The following topics will be
addressed: substance abuse, disease prevention, family living, growth and
development, mental health, nutrition, personal health, and safety
Introduction
Program Goals for Health Education
Students will use health knowledge,
decision-making skills, communication skills, goal-setting and personal risk
assessment skills to enhance personal health and reduce risk behaviors.
Students will demonstrate the ability to access
valid health information and select health-promoting products and services
through the use of technology and other resources.
Students will understand and analyze
the influence of the media, technology, culture, and other factors to make
informed decisions on health issues.
Students will apply knowledge and
skills for health improvement and disease prevention.
Students will demonstrate the ability to
advocate for personal, family, and community health.
